Benny
has lifted the veil off his vibrant looking Monaro
Friday,
10 October 2008 - Ben Bray has revealed the exciting new look for
remainder of it's 2008-2009 ANDRA Top Doorslammer Championship campaign.
The car was unveiled in Bathurst as part on the Supercheap Auto
1000 festivities.
Team patriarch Victor Bray was understandably thrilled when the
covers came off Ben's Monaro CV8Z - to reveal the striking new livery.
"We couldn't be any happier than we are today unveiling this
car as part of the Supercheap Auto 1000. It looks fantastic and
together with Ben's performances at round one of this season's championship,
the outlook is exciting," Victor said.
Ben explained, "The Monaro CV8Z has a very vibrant racy red
livery which blends perfectly with his outlook of the 2008-2009
Top Doorslammer Championship. This is my seventh full season in
a Group 1 category and also with some of my sponsor partnerships,
like Castrol EDGE, Hogs Breath Café, Sidchrome, and Karcher.
Their importance to my Top Doorslammer Championship programme is
reflected with their prominence on the car".
"Of course, there is far more to a successful campaign than
the colour of a car and the name on the side! In the next few weeks
we are busy with on- track entertainment, this week-end and also
at the Indy carnival in 2 weeks time. We have a couple of changes
to make with the set up of the car and fingers crossed that we are
again capable of being fully competitive in 2008-2009. I have 'The
Eye of the Tiger' at the moment and I'm supported by one of the
most enthusiastic and hard-working teams in the sport and I look
forward to a year that on current form will be a successful one,"
he added.
Ben
also sprung a surprise on is Father, presenting him with a replica
1/24 scale model 2004-2005 Championship winning - Super Cheap Auto
1957 Chevy. "That was a fantastic gesture and one that I really
appreciated," said Victor. "It brought back the memories
of what a remarkable time when Ben won his second championship in
the Top Doorslammer bracket and along the way set quite a number
of track, national and world records.
"But that is history and we're now fully focused on the 2008-2009
season. Ben is a young driver who is hungry for competition but
also has experience. Ben has had a couple of very hard years due
to a very serious workshop accident and I'm looking forward to watching
him develop further during the season. Ben has a comprehensive programme
of 8 events in Monaro Top Doorslammer between now and June next
year. I hope to see him gain further in both experience and confidence
during the year," added Victor.
Now in its 13th season, the exciting and spectacular Top Doorslammer
class has almost exclusively been the domain of the Bray family,
with Victor winning six consecutive titles from 1996-2001 and 17
national event victories in 36 final round appearances.
As a 17-year-old Ben set a world record as the youngest ever professional
drag racing champion by clinching the 2003 title in his first full
season of racing and he then set another world record for the most
consecutive round wins in a professional class (at 24 wins) when
he secured his second Top Doorslammer title.
Ben is fast closing in on his father, with 14 national event victories
from 18 final round appearances.
While Ben has recorded a quicker personal best elapsed time for
the standing quarter-mile (5.916secs compared to 6.010), Victor
remains the 'King of Speed' at 245.77mph (394.57km/h).
The first trip down the quarter mile for Team Bray with the new
livery will be the Golden States - Australian Top Doorslammer Championship
Round 2. at Perth Motorplex - Kwinana Beach WA on November 14th
& 15th 2008
